WHAT I LEARNT WATCHING GAME SHOW

I used to watch a lot of game shows on tv. Off late, not much. But few years back, YES. I am talking about Amazing race, Survivor, Apprentice, Master Chef etc. I do not know how many of it are staged and how much of the emotions are real. But I have learnt a lot watching these game shows. Let me share few of my wisdom.

1. Focus on your winning, not making others loose

This is one important lesson which I have learnt. I think it was the first season of Amazing race show and I was watching it without missing a single episode. Final leg of the race was played out between a couple from Queen's, New York and two friends. The destination they had to reach to win the race was Queen's. Since the couple knew the geography of the area inside out, their plan was to confuse the other two participants to take a wrong route and then they will take the correct route and win. But it did not happen that way, and finally they lost. If they had focused on their winning, rather than making the other team loose, it would have helped.

The important thing is focus on your winning and never on making another person loose. It is finally going to be detrimental for you.

2. Never compromise on your values

This is from the reality show aired on channel V for selecting singers for a pop group called 'Aasma'. They were to be groomed by channel V and they would even release albums. Neeti Mohan, who has become very popular now, was also part of that group. For the competition there was one probable contender called vasudha sharma. She was a person who had some reservations about wearing a revealing dress and she expressed her opinion quite frankly. She even refused to get into the swimming pool with a bunch of boys.I am not getting into taking moral judgements here, but she was not comfortable doing it. She was quite assertive in voicing her opinions too. I thought may be she would not be selected in the final 4, but that was not to be. She got selected and she did well too. So, do not compromise on your values at all. Stand by them and others will respect you for having these values. We just do not have to follow others to look cool and never be part of the herd mentality.

3. You don't even have to win, to be successful

Normally all the credits and cash go to the winners. Runners up are not so monetarily benefited. But we can find that sometimes the runners up of competitions have done very well in their careers compared to the winners. Think about it and you will find many examples. So, loosing a competition, job interview, or exam is not the end of life.

4. Sometimes it is OK not to get the attention

Actually it is better to be an underdog. Too much of expectation from people is not going to be of help. The lesser the expectation, better the results. You would never be voted out, just because people are very intimidated by you.

Do you have anything more to add?. Get back to me and we will discuss it further.
