BEING SELFLESS IS STRENGTH
We are living at a time, where being selfish is very fashionable. We are fed by this idea from all directions, that we are doing ourselves a great injustice if we are not selfish. But I think, that is not the way life should be. I wish some one had told me this during my youth and I would have made some better decisions in my life.
If M.K.Gandhi would have been selfish and led his life as a lawyer, earning money and taking care of his family, then we would not be remembering him as Mahatma now. Barack Obama, after finishing his Harvard education, had a option to take up a comfortable job and live a life like any other person, or help poor black people with legal advice. He choose the later and went on to become the first black president of the USA. And there are many such examples which we can see. If Anand kumar of super 30 fame, was focused only on making money, he would not be able to change the lives of many people, for ever.
The easiest choice in our life is to be busy with our own selfish lives and complain about one million things happening around us. Slightly more difficult thing is to focus our life in the interest of others and see the change it brings about in us. If we lead a selfless live, the returns are multi fold than what we will get leading a selfish life. So, be selfless in your life.
Start with your family. If you just have a selfish goal, the compromises which you have to make to get it will be too many. So, start with small things in your life. Before making a decision, just think whether it would hurt or bring trouble to any one. Avoid doing those things. Being selfless is a virtue and strength. It will give you a very liberating feeling, because you will never be worried only about your happiness and satisfaction. Try to do things for others, and see the change it will bring in your life. Make selflessness as your goal.
